The Magnolia Bakery Cookbook has been part of my cookbook collection for years. I have yet to bake from it. So, when in New York last autumn, I figured I try the real deal before even attempting to replicate it. The real deal tasted wonderful. The first cupcake was bought in midtown and eaten on a NYC sidewalk with a view of the Radio City Music Hall, one warm New York night. The second one, bought at their original shop, was eaten whilst walking through the stunning West Village, made more stunning by autumn colours and sun flare. Also: pumpkin flavour. Need I say more? I guess not, I might as well end this list of New York food memories here, because what can possibly top this?
This right here. This can top cup cakes: good wine, delicious cheeses and charcuterie. This can top about anything. Especially when enjoyed in a cozy wine bar with good company. There’s really not much more to tell, it was simply the perfect meal. The only thing that could have made it even better, was if this wine bar was not a wine bar but a quaint restaurant in the Marais, and the wine served was just as French as the oozing French cheeses and charcuterie.
To end this list, we take a look at lunch at the Roebling Tea Room in Williamsburg. As one does, when the menu doesn’t offer anything out of the ordinary, I ordered coffee and avocado toast. Which at the time, seemed like a good idea. Now however, it seems so foolish. I should have just ordered the kale salad…(Can you tell I was a bit disappointed by the menu?)
I have many more food memories to share from New York, and I will. One will included the make-up-for-boring-menu lunch I had: al fresco and featuring a stunning view. To be continued…
